Mosque Visit

Al Rayan Islamic Centre - Courtice Masjid welcomes visitors.  If you would like to visit the mosque, as an individual or group, please conatc us at.  We will do our best to accommodate your requests, based on the availability of our volunteer hosts.  Please allow a few days to hear a response.  Thank you for expressing interest in visiting the Islamic Centre of Clarington.

What to expect during a visit to ICC:

Visits usually include a brief tour of the mosque and an introductory presentation on Islam with an opportunity for questions and answers.  Hosts are community volunteers who have experience working in the Muslim community and have a general knowledge of various issues.  They will answer all questions to the best of their ability.  Most group visits can last between 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Mosque Etiquettes:

Men and women should dress conservatively when visiting a mosque, covering their arms and legs.  Examples of inappropriate clothing would be shorts, short skirts and tank tops.  Shoes are removed before entering the prayer area.  In some mosques, women are also asked to cover their hair.  At WCM, a head covering is not required; however if you are visiting during a prayer service, a scarf is recommended.

If you happen to visit the mosque during prayers, please note that talking is not permitted during the sermon (khutbah) on Fridays. One should not walk in front of someone who is praying.  Muslims who are praying cannot talk or be interrupted until they’ve finished. However, other people who are not praying can talk silently.

In general, the mosque atmosphere is relaxed. People sit on the carpeted floor when listening to the sermon and when performing prayers, although there are chairs available also.  Please feel free to ask questions and make yourself at home when visiting the Islamic Centre of Clarington.
